Best San Antonio Neighborhoods for Military Families

San Antonio is home to several military bases, and military families are an integral part of this city. Every year, thousands of military families relocate, and many of them move in and out of San Antonio. When searching for a good neighborhood for these families, several factors are considered.

Three of the primary factors military families look at when searching for an ideal neighborhood are safety for their children, quality of schools, and proximity to the military base where they are stationed. Neighborhoods that rate positive in all three of these areas are among the most desirable.

Aside from base housing, here are three of the best neighborhoods in San Antonio for military families:

  1. Randolph Metrocom

Randolph Air Force Base is located about 30 minutes outside of San Antonio and is home to about 10,000 military personnel and their families. Naturally, the area surrounding this large base has an abundance of housing that meets the needs of military families.

The collection of communities immediately surrounding the Randolph AFB is known as the Randolph Metrocom. Housing prices here will vary depending on the particular part of the Metrocom in which you want to locate. But in general, the housing available is moderately priced and located in safe areas with good schools.

  1. Alamo Heights

Alamo Heights is one of the more upscale communities in San Antonio. Located just north of downtown, Alamo Heights meets most of the criteria military families are searching for. It is safe, has good schools, and borders Fort Sam Houston on its eastern edge. The only possible drawback is that housing may be a little pricey, but if you can afford it, living in this neighborhood is well worth it.

  1. Terrell Hills

Terrell Hills is similar to Alamo Heights, it is an upscale city within the city of San Antonio that is very safe, has good schools, and borders Fort Sam Houston. Terrell Hills even shares its emergency management system with Alamo Heights. As is the case with Alamo Heights, housing affordability may be an issue here. But if you can swing it, you will likely be very happy living in this area.
