Store More in Your Bathroom

Managing a Remodel - PrimeLending, Your Mortgage LenderIs your bathroom countertop covered with make-up, body lotion and an abundance of other toiletries? If you answered yes and have found that your bathroom countertop is no longer visible, it is definitely time to clean up and de-clutter. For those with limited bathroom space, this task is easier said than done. Lucky for you, there are numerous organization items on the market today that can help you with this challenging task. All you need is the patience to find the products that suit your space and style best. Listed below are some quick, easy and inexpensive ways to create more storage and de-clutter your bathroom.

Shelving and Storage

Before you begin clearing items off of your bathroom counter, you need a place to put them. Consider placing skinny shelving units in empty floor space. The best areas to place these freestanding units are beside/over the toilet or between the bathtub and vanity area. From hair dryers to bath towels, these freestanding shelving units can store just about anything.
If are tight on space and have no extra room for a freestanding shelving unit, try hanging shelves on your walls. Although these shelves are usually skinny, they are a great way to store shampoo bottles, nail polishes, and stylish jars filled with cotton balls or Q-tips.

For personal items, or the things you just don’t care to look at anymore, opt for decorative baskets. Baskets are great storage items that come in a wide array of shapes and sizes. Once your basket is full, simply slide it on to one of your newly placed shelves.

Under the Sink Storage

If you have space under your bathroom sink, chances are, you are already utilizing it. However, there are a few tricks to make the most of this seemingly small space.

  • To assist with the task of clearing off the countertop, consider adding small, light-weight shelves to the back of the cabinet doors. These shelves may not hold much, but they make an excellent spot to stash hairbrushes, combs, ponytail holders, etc.

  • Another great option is to purchase a rotating tray. They truly are a great help under the sink. From hair products to cleaning products, you can store just about anything on these trays. Plus, you’ll no longer have to dig for your things.

  • If the bathroom is used by more than one person, try adding a bin for each person under the sink. This allows each person to keep their things separated and stored away.

Organize Drawers

Another great way to add more storage to your bathroom is to organize your drawers. This can easily be done by purchasing an inexpensive drawer organizer from a home improvement store. They come in a wide range of shapes, sizes and colors. The most important thing here is to measure the drawer before heading to the store to ensure you purchase one that fits properly.

Pedestal Sink

If your bathroom contains a pedestal sink it’s time to think creatively. With a pedestal sink you have no under the sink storage and limited, if any, drawer space. Therefore, step back and look around your bathroom. Is there anything hanging above your toilet? If the answer is no, consider mounting a cabinet over it. This will allow you to store items such as towels and bath and body products. Another idea is add shelves or baskets to your nearby linen closet. Lastly, if you have quite a bit of floor space, consider bringing one the freestanding shelving units we discussed earlier.
